The BSS Quacker

Back to Brazil Index Page

Judging by the size of some of the butterflys down here it only makes sense that the caterpillars should be large! I guess?? This should give a better indication of the size of this guy! I wonder if they eat the leaves of trees the way our caterpillars do? Or do they just eat the tree And now the project - The building ofthe BSS Quacker. Required materials are in place and ready to go. Construction was originally planned for outside but due to the heat and humidity it was quickly moved inside to prevent severe heatstroke to the constructors. Once inside the construction progressed quickly due to the skill of the craftsmen and the offer of many cold beers upon completion. Aah, here's one of the craftsmen now. Notice the appropriateness of his work clothes, sweat absorbent until saturated - hence the large, wet spot on the concrete. No, he didn't have an accident, it was good, honest perspiration! So the BSS Quacker is now coming out of dry dock and heading for the exciting launch in the nearest large body of water. It's a long difficult road with many obstacles to be avoided along the way. And now the penultimate question - WILL IT FLOAT????? TA_DA - Yes, it floats (although there was never any doubt in the minds of the builders). And now that it continues to float it's time to answer the ultimate question - What the heck is it for? With a name like the BSS Quacker that question shouldn't be to difficult to answer! Look at the smiles on their happy little faces as they rush out to have a look! It's time to find an anchoring location ... ... to make sure it doesn't interfere with the fishing activities. There was one minor oversight - nobody thought to ask the ducks if they wanted it! So far the only living creature to have actually been on the deck was an overly agitated fish that jumped out of the water when we launched it and it skittered across the deck and off the other side!! So there it sits as a reminder of the skill and ingenuity of the builders while the fish are in a feeding frenzy in front of it. NO! It didn't sink!! The picture was taken from a different angle to show the fish activity at feeding time. The building below is used as the 'goat house' but was actually lived in at one time. The horizontal line just below the horizon is the highway between Curitiba and Matinhos. At the bottom of the 'driveway' (which you can't drive up - too steep) showing C&K's car and the nearest neighbour's house. So there it floats in it's tranquil little pond - the BSS Quacker. Other than the cost it kind of reminds me of BC's Fast Ferries fiasco! One more set of Brazil photos and then on to Chile!
