JORDAN - 2002

Ancient Jerash. We went to Jordan when we left the Emirates in 2002. I never got around to cataloging the pictures properly. Luckily a friend we had worked with in the Emirates, Omar Badran, has now emigrated to Canada and is working in Cranbrook. He is originally Jordanian and when he came to a visit a couple of weeks ago I got him to identify some of the locations. There are still a few to be confirmed. Ancient Jerash The South Theatre. We were met in Amman by Mohammed Abed. He worked with Elaine at the Womens' College and had invited us to visit him and his family in Jordan. There were some pretty intricate designs from back in those days. The weather was horrible the day we were there and the rocks on this street were amazingly slippery. This is the house that he was having built. You can see by the puddles that the weather hadn't been overly pleasant. The house was going to be huge. I think there was only going to be Mohammed, his wife and their three sons moving into it although his mother might be as well. Guess what was for lunch. Elaine and Mohammed... ... with eldest son At his mother's house. Mohammed's three sons and his mother. We had great Jordanian hospitality and stayed at Mohammed's brother or sister's house. The next day Mohammed arranged for a driver for us to do a tour of the countryside. Not a lot of landscaping in this particular area. Umm Quais? Omar wasn't sure of the location of the next bunch of pictures so I'm going to save commenting until I get more info. Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? This one doesn't really need a location, look at the size of those udders! Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? Umm Quais? They even have washouts in Jordan. Karak Karak Karak Karak Karak Karak The entrance canyon to Petra. Petra Petra The Treasury We met up with Ken & Judy here and of course the woman immediately had to go looking for the 'treasure'. The sandstone created a very vivid imagery of colours. Petra And of course you could rent a camel to ride around the town on. They still haven't located the treasure. Around the corner from the Treasury and into the town area. There were many dwellings carved into the mountain. And what would a city be without an amphitheatre! Petra Navel contemplation or is there actually something down there? Creative erosion. Petra One of the old roads. The path to The Monastery. We were told how many steps there are to the top but I can't remember how many it was. Lots, comes to mind! Along the path. Getting closer. The Monastery. The Monastery. Vegetation is sparse up here. Petra Petra Petra We made it. And so did Judy - either Ken has gotten younger and better looking or ... I guess we must have had a guide on that hike. Pretty barren rocks! Something about "Keep the sun off of me!". Last looks at The Monastery. Petra And back at our hotel and ready to relax. The happy young couple. The happy younger couple. And guess who just got another year older ...? ... here he is, the birthday boy, Kenny!!
